FMCSA-Registered ELDs: How to Check the List and What Revocation Means

Every ELD must be on FMCSA’s registered list. Here is what that listing means, how to verify a device, and the 60-day process when a device is revoked.

  • FMCSA-registered (ELD ID DDL996)
  • $20/truck, GPS included
  • No contract

Quick answer

An FMCSA-registered ELD is one its vendor has self-certified as meeting the technical specifications and registered with FMCSA. FMCSA does not test or endorse devices. Check any ELD at eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List. If your device is revoked, switch to paper logs or logging software and replace it within 60 days. DocuDrive is listed as DocuDrive Logbook, model DOC-5, ELD ID DDL996.

What "registered" means

49 CFR 395.22(a) says a carrier required to use an ELD may use only one listed on FMCSA's registered ELD list. Getting on that list works differently from what most people assume. The vendor tests its own device against the technical specifications in Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395, certifies that it complies, and registers it with FMCSA. FMCSA does not test devices before they are listed.

The list itself says so: the listed devices are self-certified by the manufacturer, and FMCSA does not endorse any ELD. Registration is the legal minimum for use, and it is the first thing to check. It tells you nothing about support, pricing, or how easy the app is to use.

How to check a device on the list

  1. Go to the list. Open eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List. The page has two tabs: Registered ELDs and Revoked ELDs.
  2. Search by name or identifier. Type the device name, company, or ELD identifier in the search box. The identifier is a six-character code the vendor assigns and discloses to FMCSA when it certifies the device.
  3. Match every field. Compare the device name, model number, software version, ELD identifier, and company with what your provider gave you. Resellers sometimes sell a device under one name that is registered under another.
  4. Check the Revoked tab too. A device that is not on the registered tab may be listed as revoked or self-revoked.
  5. Confirm the transfer method. Ask the provider which data transfer methods the device is registered for, telematic (web services and email) or local (Bluetooth and USB), and make sure your cab card matches.

DocuDrive's listing

As shown on FMCSA's registered list in October 2026:

FieldDocuDrive
Device nameDocuDrive Logbook
Model numberDOC-5
Software version2.94.45 or above
ELD identifierDDL996
CompanyDocuDrive LLC
Data transferTelematic: web services and email

The listing names a minimum software version, so keep the driver app updated on every phone in the fleet and the version you run will match what was certified. Drivers send logs from the app's Inspection Mode using the "Send" button. Put these details on your in-cab card so an officer can confirm them quickly. See our ELD cab card guide.

The revoked list

The Revoked ELDs tab shows devices FMCSA found do not meet the technical specifications. Each entry has a status:

  • Revoked: FMCSA removed the device.
  • Self Revoked: the vendor withdrew its own registration, often because it discontinued the product.

Revocations are not rare. In 2026 alone FMCSA issued a July 9 bulletin removing 10 devices and an August 6 bulletin removing 5 more. Revoked entries include devices built on widely used hardware, so check the registration of the software and provider you actually use.

What to do if your ELD is revoked

FMCSA's revocation bulletins follow the same pattern. Using the August 6, 2026 bulletin as the example:

  1. Stop using the revoked device. Switch to paper logs or logging software to record hours of service.
  2. Replace it within 60 days. Carriers get up to 60 days to install a compliant ELD from the registered list. For the August 6 removals, the deadline was October 6, 2026.
  3. Expect leniency only until the deadline. Before it, officers are encouraged not to cite drivers for no record of duty status or for failing to use a registered ELD, and to review paper logs, logging software, or the ELD display instead.
  4. After the deadline, it counts as no ELD. Officers are told to cite 395.8(a)(1) and place the driver out of service under the CVSA criteria.

If the vendor fixes the problems, FMCSA can put the device back on the list. FMCSA still encourages carriers to replace the device right away. FMCSA announces revocations in its newsroom and by industry-wide email.

Switching after a revocation

A revocation forces a quick switch, often in the middle of a contract. Before you sign with a replacement, check its listing, confirm the transfer method, and read the cancellation terms. Our guides on switching ELD providers and canceling an ELD contract cover the steps.

Carriers who already own a Pacific Track PT-30 or PT-40 can move it to DocuDrive without buying new hardware. See bring your own ELD. Service is $20 per truck per month, no contract, with a 14-day free trial. Get started.

Common questions

Does FMCSA test ELDs before listing them?

No. ELDs are self-certified. The vendor certifies that its device meets the technical specifications in Part 395 and registers it. FMCSA can investigate and remove devices that do not comply, which is how devices end up on the revoked list.

What happens if my ELD is removed from the registered list?

FMCSA typically gives carriers up to 60 days to replace a revoked device. In the meantime, drivers use paper logs or logging software. After the deadline, a driver still using the revoked device is treated as operating without an ELD and can be placed out of service.

What is an ELD identifier?

A six-character code the ELD provider assigns to a certified ELD model and version. It appears on FMCSA’s list and in the data the device produces. DocuDrive Logbook’s ELD identifier is DDL996. Officers can use the identifier to confirm a device is registered.

Is a Pacific Track PT-30 or PT-40 registered by itself?

Registration covers the ELD as a system, listed under the vendor that certifies it, so check the provider’s listing. DocuDrive supports the PT-30 and PT-40, and its system is registered as DocuDrive Logbook, ELD identifier DDL996.

How do I find out about ELD revocations?

FMCSA posts revocation bulletins in its newsroom, updates the Revoked ELDs tab at eld.fmcsa.dot.gov, and sends industry emails. Checking your device on the registered list every few months also catches a revocation early.
